The origin of Rebecca Houlihan Photography is not like most photographer’s stories. I grew up with a one-track mind, knowing that the only thing I ever wanted to do in my life was graduate from MSU College of Vet Med. In 2004, I graduated from MSU with my BS LVT, then in 2005 started working for a small and exotic animal practice located in Charlotte, MI. I knew one day I would either end up working in research or become board certified in anesthesia, however, I had no idea my life was about to take a totally different turn.
In 2006 while my daughter was modeling for boutique clothing designers all over the US, I discovered I had a huge passion for photography. I began studying photography whenever I wasn’t working, and I literally devoured every bit of information I could find, staying up way too late to study and practicing whenever I could squeeze it in. On June 8, 2008, Rebecca Houlihan Photography officially opened for business.
My primary focus for the first several years was high school seniors. I made a point to help every single person I photographed be comfortable in their own skin and completely embrace who they were. We created the most epic sessions possible for every single teen who worked with us. Business grew very quickly and soon I found myself with two very full time jobs. I was never not working. Even after dropping my hours at the veterinary clinic to part-time, then to only one day a week, having two jobs was still too much to handle, as Rebecca Houlihan Photography had really exploded. In May of 2014, I quit my career in vet med to 100% pursue my passion of growing my portrait business.
RHP would not be where it is today without the amazing support of our beloved clients who’ve chosen us to capture their forever memories. From snuggling your brand new babies, to playing with your cute kiddos, to climbing basketball hoops for your teens, and even drowning our cell phone taking portraits in Lake Michigan, it has all been an amazing experience, and being a part of each and every story has truly been an honor. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for entrusting me with your precious memories.
Cheers to 10 years!
As a thank you for all you’ve given me the last 10 years – I’d like to give back!
